The system-wide retail CBDC transaction number is currently 18,000 per day, and the number is expected to increase significantly in the coming months, an official of the government communicate on Thursday.
In July, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said that it had set a target of a million transactions per day in retail CBDC by the year-end. As per a government official, interoperability with Unified Payments Interface (UPI) QR codes will bring in a quantum leap in the number of transactions in retail CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency) in the coming months.
In the month of July, Sankar gave information about how thirteen banks which had already done the partial interoperability where they could even scan the UPI QR codes for Central Bank Digital Currency or CBDC.
